Use Your English to Help Your Friends!
You have been studying English for years and years? Are you using it to help make your friends happy? You should be!
Here are some English expressions you can use to help make your friends happy when they are sad.
1. Every cloud has a silver lining
I think this is similar to the Spanish expression and it means keep going until things get better. A resolution is always on the horizon.
2. Look on the bright side!
There are two ways to look at your problems. You can look at them and think, “Oh No, everything is terrible!” or you can “Look on the bright side” and realise that things aren’t really as bad as they seem. It could always be worse!
3. Chin Up!
When people are sad, they look at the ground with their head down. It shows they feel down. Tell your friends to “Chin up!”It’s not so bad!
4. There’s no point crying over spilt milk!
This is one my mother’s favourite expressions. It means, if you make a mistake, there is no point getting upset about it. It happened in the past and you can’t do anything to change it. Just focus on the future and get on with life!
5. Practise makes perfect!
Everybody wants to be brilliant at everything and we get upset when we cannot do something. If your friends are upset because they are not very good at something, tell them “Practise Makes Perfect!”.
If you do not understand these English expressions, don’t worry. Keep your chin up, practise makes perfect! You will understand them all one day and be able to use them easily!
