Surfing Vocabulary – Cowabunga!

I am always talking about how Surfing is my favourite sport. I  love it because it means you can go to the beach and get in the ocean and enjoy the sun! The world of surfing has a language all of its own, and I’m going to share it with you, with examples of how to use it in English conversation.

1. To Catch a Wave – Coger Una Ola

I’m going to the beach with my surfboard – I hope I can catch some waves today!

2. Wetsuit – El Traje de Surf

I’m going surfing today but the water is cold so I need to wear a wetsuit.

3. Wave – La Ola

Let’s go surfing today, the waves are huge today!

4. To Wipe Out – Caerse

I had a  really bad wipe out and I thought I was going to die!

5. Tube – El Tubo

Wow, I got some really great tubes today! I’m so stoked!

6. Stoked – (No se)

I’m so stoked, the waves are amazing, I’m really happy!

7. To Paddle – Remar

I am going to paddle through the waves. It’s hard to paddle, because the waves are HUGE.

8. To Stand Up – Ponerse de Pie, Levantarse

I’m not very good at surfing. I still can’t stand up on the surfboard.
