The 2012 Summer Olympic Games opening ceremony will kick off on Friday and London will be expecting about 10500 athletes from over 200 nations. There will be 302 events there the athletes will compete in 26 sports.
London is full of people visiting the city for the Olympic Games and there will be about 500,000 spectators. The Olympic committee say that they have sold 9 million tickets and expect to sell more! The spectators will also include the friends and families of the athletes as well as their trainers and support team. That’s a lot of people!
The Olympic Opening Ceremony
The opening Ceremony is meant to be an exciting extravaganza that will get the Olympics going at a rapid pace! As well as live music and fireworks there are secret plans to make the event extra special, but nobody knows exactly what will happen. Well, actually, the only people who do know what the surprise will be are the 70000 volunteers!
The Paralympic Games
Equally as exciting is the London Paralympic Games, which will start just after the Olympic Games. There will be another Opening Ceremony for the Paralympic Games and the events will run for another 11 days. There will be 4200 Paralympic athletes, each athlete has some form of physical or mental disability. The Olympic Committee have sold about 1 million tickets for the Paralympics.
