If something is ‘beefed up’ it is intensified, increased or enhanced. If a person has ‘beefed up’ it means they have got bigger.

1. Princess Sofia is coming to Barcelona so they have beefed up security. They usually only have 100 body guards in the city, but when Princess Sofia comes they will have 300!
