Elisabeth of Baviera, better known as Sissi, was one of the most famous Austrian empresses in world history. Sissi didn’t want to be an empress, but the Austrian emperor fell in love with her. She was very young when she got married.
After the wedding, she became the most powerful woman in her Kingdom, but she didn’t have an easy life. First, she had a lot of problems with her mother in law, the Archduchess Sophia. Moreover, as Austrian Empress, she couldn’t look after her children, she had a lot of depressions and one of her daughters and her son died before her. She was a much loved person who, thanks to her charisma, won the sympathy of her husband’s enemies becoming Queen of Hungary.
But Sissi was more than an Empress. Maybe she never knew, but she was a very modern person for her time. She loved travelling, she followed a strict diet and she was an independent woman. She helped her husband to rule, but her biggest victories were taking care of her youngest daughter, travelling where she wanted to go, breaking the protocol and above all, being herself in the Austrian Empire.
I admire Sissi because she was a woman who followed her ideals and she was fighting a lot of the time. I think that life is a present but it is not forever. Everybody should realize their dreams and be happy, like her, even if at times it is difficult.
