Interesting Slang (Argot)

 

1. To Go Bad (Going Bad) – “Estropear”

e.g. Don’t leave the meat in the sun, it will go bad!

 

2. To Beware – “Cuidado”

e.g. Beware of the BBQ; it is very hot and you will burn yourself.

 

3. To have a “Dark Side” – “Tener un Lado Oscuro”

e.g. Juan is very friendly but he has a dark side. I think it’s best to be careful with him.

 

4. A “Barbie” – Slang/Argot for “Barbecoa”

e.g. It’s going to be sunny tomorrow so I thought we could go to the beach and have a barbie!

 

5. To Barf – Slang/Argot for “a Vomitar”

e.g. The plane was moving around so much that I barfed on the person sitting next to me! It was so embarrassing.

 

6. To be “Nasty” – “Desagradable”

e.g. The man at the restaurant was so nasty! I’m not going to leave him a tip.

 

7. Raw – “Crudo”

e.g. Make sure you cook the meat properly; I know it looks cooked on the outside, but it could still be raw in the middle!

 

8. Limbs – “Miembro”

e.g.Beware of the bbq; it’s very hot and you don’t want to burn one of your limbs.

 

9. To Pour – “Verter”

e.g. I’m going to pour myself a glass of wine – would you like one, too?
