Could this be the year that you and your ‘crush’ get together? Let’s hope so!
Valentine’s day has arrived! Here is the vocabulary you’ll need to tell that special person how you really feel.
1. To Have/Be a Secret Admirer
If you have an ‘admirer’ it means that somebody really likes or loves you. Often we have ‘secret admirers’; these are people that love/like us but we don’t know about it.
Are you a secret admirer? Are you going to send your loved one that you care about them this Valentine’s day?
2. A Loved One
A ‘loved one’ is a person that you love and care about. It could be a person you don’t know or it could be a family member, or your boyfriend/girlfriend.
3. To Be a Heartthrob
If somebody is a ‘hearthrob’, it means that they are loved by lots of people. Celebrities like Justin Beiber, Just Timberlake and Leonardo Dicaprio are considered to be famous heartthrobs.
4. Unrequited Love
There are all kinds of different love. There’s love that you feel for your family. There’s love that you feel for your boyfriend/girlfriends. There’s love that you feel for you friends.
There is also love that you feel for people that is not returned by them.
If you love somebody, but they do not love you in return, we call this ‘unrequited love’ – it’s very sad.
‘Darling’ is a popular word to use when calling somebody you love or care about. It is similar to the Spanish expression – me vida. If you call somebody ‘Darling’, you are openly showing expressing you affection for that person.
If you have a ‘crush’ on somebody it means that you like them very much. It could mean that you wish you could be more than ‘just friends’. You may have a crush on a friend, or maybe you have a crush on a pop singer?
Who is your crush for this year’s Valentine’s day?
